After successful intrusion, BTCWare Ransomware doesn’t waste time and starts indexing certain files. When file indexing is done, the ransomware deploys encryption engine and encrypts so many important files that are saved in commonly used data containers. Despites this, the file encoder virus also creates an HTM file – #_HOW_TO_FIX_!.hta.htm and drops it on your affected desktop, even inside each folder having “.BTCWare” files.

This HTM file will be opened on your web browser automatically whenever you restart your computer. It features very short note that encourages you to visit a TOR website to pay off ransom fee 0.5 BTC (Currently, equivalent to $ 552.44) to restore the files in original format. Unluckily, the ransom note doesn’t provide more information. So, this is it what you can present to you for now. Data decryption without a proper private key is nearly impossible. Additionally, security researchers haven’t released any free decryption tool yet. However, as this data decryption key is only stored at BTCWare’s C&C server it becomes totally impossible to get this key without paying ransom fee. Taking advantages of this situation, the ransomware developers also threaten you that if don’t make ransom payment within 24 hours, the private key will be deleted from server permanently.
