RanRans Ransomware is yet another crypto-ransomware that based on the open source code of Hidden Tear. Initially this project released for the educational purposes but several cyber hackers misused the goal of Hidden Tear's and created the ransomware versions. Recently, RanRans Ransomware attacks observed against the multiple Middle Eastern government organizations. The name of this ransomware is based on the embedded strings within malware. After executed initially, it creates Services1.0 mutex. If this mutex already exists then it will exit. It installs itself on PC by making a copy like “C:\services.exe”. This variant of ransomware is typically follows base64 encoded string to create an autorun key in order to run itself automatically when System restarts. Being a ransomware family, it uses several deceptive channels to lurks inside the Computer but mainly spread via spam campaigns, torrent files, freeware and shareware packages, infected devices etc.

Functionality of RanRans Ransomware

The primary objective of RanRans Ransomware is to lock entire files on the PC using the RSA public key and request from a ransom fee to restore them. It encrypt file using a strong password and the password are generated for the several groups of files according to the sizes including 0-5 MB, 5-30 MB, 30-100 MB, 100-300 MB, 300-700 MB, 700-2000 MB, 2000-3000 MB, 3000 MB and greater. On the completion of file encryption round, it renames the original filename by appending “zXz file  extension and the files being written like “VictimKey_[lower_bound]_[upper_bound]. Unlike other variant of ransomware, RanRans Ransomware also does not ask you for the direct payment but it has same intention to extort money from you. By displaying scary message, it scare innocent user and ask them to pay huge amount of ransom fee to decrypt them but you should not do at any cost because there is no any assurances provide by its con artists that you will get the decryption key even paying off the money. Remove RanRans Ransomware From Your PC

Step 1: Remove RanRans Ransomware in Safe Mode with Command Prompt

• First of all disconnect your PC with network connection.
• Click restart button and keep pressing F8 key regularly while system restart.

• You will see “Windows Advanced Options Menu” on your computer screen.

• Select “Safe Mode with Command Prompt” and press Enter key.

• You must login your computer with Administrator account for full privilege.

• Once the Command Prompt appears then type rstrui.exe and press Enter

• Now follow the prompts on your screen to complete system restore.

Step 2: Remove RanRans Ransomware using MSConfig in Safe Mode:

• Power off your computer and restart again.
• While booting press the “F8 key” continuously to open “Windows Advanced Options Menu”.

• Use the arrow keys to select “Safe Mode” option and press Enter key.

• Once system get started go to Start menu. Type “msconfig” in the search box and launch the application.

• Go to the Startup tab and look for files from %AppData% or %Temp% folders using rundll32.exe. See an example below:

• Disable all the malicious entries and save the changes.
• Now restart your computer normally.

Step 3 : Kill Malicious Process Related To RanRans Ransomware

• Press Alt+Ctrl+Del buttons together.

• It will open the Task manager on your screen.
• Go to Process Tab and find RanRans Ransomware related process.
• Click the End Process Now button to stop the running process.
