RIP Ransomware Removal Guide and File Restoring Technique

RIP Ransomware

RIP Ransomware – Initial Research

Apparently, RIP Ransomware is developed using HiddenTear Project platform, unleashed early in November 2016. As you may have heard that the project was published online as a free source by programmer Utku Sen. Till now, the project has been used by more than a thousand of professional cyber criminals to develop ransomware, RIP Ransomware is one of them. Unlike most of the ransomware, it uses instant messaging services and social media network distribute the ransomware with a dropper in file format RAR, ZIP, PDF, DOCX (any of them) containing phishing text messages. You may receive such attachment files also via spam emails from unknown sources or supposedly famous organizations. If you open and execute it even by mistake, the cryptomalware dropper gets installed on your system. On the scheduled time, the dropper will connect to a server and installs components of the ransomware without your consent in background.

How does RIP Ransomware perform operation?

Once, the ransomware is activated, first of all, it will collect necessary information related to the affected system and send it to the operators via C&C server. Once the unique ID is created for the victim on the server, the ransomware start scanning targeted data containers on the system. It indexes all the important files and employs RSA and AES combined ciphers to encrypt your files and generate a per PC-based decryption key (aka private key or unlock key). The key will be stored on the server database, in case victim pays off ransom around 1 BTC (756 USD), then the key will be given to him/her. Otherwise, according to the ransom note, the key will be destroyed after 7 days automatically.

Possible risk while making ransom pay off

For paying the ransom, developers suggest to use TOR network, which known for supporting cyber criminals since the beginning. Besides, they ask you to make payment via Bitcoin base wallet which is not mostly used by normal people or company but the gamers and professional criminals. While adding money to the bitcoin wallet, attackers may steal your online banking details. As a result, they may steal your whole life’s saving just in few seconds. None wants to be a part of such circumstances.
